Good Golf for a Good Cause

Editorial: Birdies to End Alzheimer’s

MADISON, Wis. – The American Family Championship is being held at University Ridge golf course this weekend, and in just its third year it already feels like an iconic Madison event.

But there’s another element to the tournament that has really caught our attention this year.

Birdies to End Alzheimer’s is a fundraising event to support efforts to find a cure for this devastating disease. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. and the only one in the top 10 that has no treatment or cure.

UW-Madison is a research leader in efforts to understand, treat and ultimately find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

So here’s the deal: visit to make a pledge. Pledge an amount for every birdie made during the golf tournament. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to UW research. Have some fun. Do some good. It’s a great event. It’s a better cause.
